Sometimes you don’t want to go away from your computer because browsing the web is so much fun. Other times you want to take a break, but you’re so engulfed in what you’re doing that you forget to do so. Have a Rest is here to ensure that you, well, have a break. It can get you to do that the easy way, by showing you a message, or the hard way, by locking the screen.

In very little time you will have the application up and running on your machine. All you have to do is download a 670KB executable, run it, and click through a simple setup wizard. When the installation completes, your default browser will launch and take you to a “The software has been successfully installed” webpage.

There are two main sections on the application’s interface: “Time Setting” and “Executive”. In the “Time Setting” section you can choose the amount of time you want to spend in front of the monitor and the length of the break. In the “Executive” section you can choose if you want the application to show you a “take a break” message or if you want it to lock the screen.

Enter the value 55 in the “Time Interval” box and the value 5 in the “Rest for” section and Have a Rest will let you work for 55 minutes, then prompt you for a 5 minutes break. If the “Lock screen” option is turned on, after 55 minutes pass, the application will lock the screen and display a countdown on it; it will unlock the screen only after 5 minutes pass. To ensure that you actually take a break, the application does not let you bypass the locked screen. Alt + F4 will not close the lock screen, Alt + Tab will not work, and neither will Alt + Shift + Esc. If the “Show Message” option is checked instead of Lock Screen, Have a Rest will present a reminder that you need to take a break.

Have a Rest is freeware.

When you’re too engulfed in work, for example, you may forget to take a break. The Have a Rest application is here to ensure this does not happen. It will remind you to take a break.

Pros

Lightweight download, simple installation process. It will either lock the screen and not let you bypass it, or it will display a take a break reminder. Have a Rest is freeware.

Cons

None that I could think of.
